From Rifugio Magnolini to Rifugio Olmo passing through Grotta dei Pagani Dawn on the Orobie, then ridges, caves and technical sections
Dawn on the Orobie, then ridges, caves and technical sections
The second stage of the Red Route starts from Rifugio Magnolini and initially develops between high-altitude meadows and panoramic ridges, with wide views of Lake Iseo and the Orobic mountains. The trail follows the ridge of Monte Pora, continues towards Colle Vareno and crosses the side of Monte Scanapà, with a regular progression and exposed sections.
After an initial moderate climb, you reach Rifugio Carlo Medici ai Cassinelli, located in a strategic position for a break. From here the route becomes more technical: the ground becomes rocky and requires greater attention.
You then arrive at Grotta dei Pagani, a natural formation inserted in an isolated environment. The area is known for its geological and historical interest, also in relation to ancient local frequentations.
After the cave, the route faces the most challenging part of the stage: you cross scree and sections on the ridge, with some exposed passages, until you reach the Passo Pozzera, a panoramic crossing point between the valleys.
The descent towards the Rifugio Olmo (1,819 m) takes place on varied but progressively more stable terrain. The refuge represents the arrival point of a complex stage both in terms of altimetric development and technical characteristics. It is recommended for expert hikers with good preparation.
The route: what to expect
Starting from the Magnolini Refuge
The trek resumes at dawn between ridges and alpine pastures, with views as far as the eye can see of the surrounding peaks.
Ascent to the Grotta dei Pagani
One of the most evocative and technical sections of the route, where history and legend intertwine in a rocky and wild environment.
Passo Pozzera and ridge paths
A crossing at the edge of the sky, between exposed sections and spectacular views of the Presolana, an exciting experience for the most expert hikers.
Arrival at the Olmo Refuge
After the challenge of the ridges, the path descends towards the Rino Olmo Refuge, an oasis of peace nestled among the mountains.
